A GroBox is our local economy driving Engine For Change. A GroBox is a easy-to-set-up , wooden planter box for your home, office, school, or anywhere with a few feet of sunny space! (see below for video tips on set up)

EXISTING GROBOX OWNERS, get your great PLANT STARTS, a bag of new or additional premium BM7 growing soil mix, organic garden soil mix, and/or other offerings.

For new members of our ‘Box Brigade’ each GroBox is handmade right in Dallas by our own staff & volunteers. 100% of the proceeds go right back into our work to grow fresh, local food; train new farmers and entrepreneurs; and work to revitalize our vibrant community in the food desert of South Dallas.

GroBoxes fold flat, are very portable, and come with a basic starter kit and instructions to get growing right away. Assembled, the GroBox measures 32” x 26” x 15 1/2” high. With its hinged collars, it can fold down to easily fit in the trunk or back seat of a car and can be home-assembled very quickly.

Each GroBox: $135 (no price increase from last year as we’re bearing inflation costs to get you growing).

Get a pallet: $25 If you’re putting your GroBox on a nonporous surface (i.e. driveway, parking lot, patio, playground) as this will allow proper drainage.

Home delivery: $20 For home delivery, please chose the “Local Delivery” option in the “Shipping” section on the checkout page. Note: We can also ship GroBoxes anywhere in the USA for an additional fee.

Set Up on Site Service: $25 per grobox. While these are easy to set up yourself, if you’d like, the delivery person can set up for you. However, please note that set up is an additional fee of $25 per grobox (paid direct to the delivery person)

In-person pick up (by appointment): You are welcome to pick up a GroBox in person on Saturdays from 9:00a - NOON at our Hatcher Station Farm in South Dallas (4527 Scyene Rd, corner of Bertrand Ave & Todd St, behind DART’s Hatcher Station light rail stop).

If you’re setting a GroBox up on concrete or non-dirt surface, we recommend a Pallet: $25 (no additional delivery cost).

On soil, plants, and growing.

First, begin with an informed choice of plants. Each kit provides a harmonious selection of plants that complement each other. Starting with organic seeds from one of the country’s most respected growers, Johnny’s Seeds, each plant is selected for optimum performance for Dallas’ demanding environment. In the shelter of the Seedling Farm at Hatcher Station Training Farm in S. Dallas, each seed is germinated, nurtured and then “hardened off” to ensure a healthy robust fully organic 4” seedling that will grow into a productive adult plant.

Next, give these seedlings the best possible growing medium. Not to be confused with the fancy-packaged “manufactured” soils that one finds in local retailers, Restorative Farms’ GroBox growing medium is a premium product and the result of years of experience, testing & evidence-based observation.

Each GroBox kit contains six (6) cubic feet of our specially formulated mix of premium organic garden soil (including Texas greensand, a naturally-occurring iron-potassium silicate with the consistency of sand but 10 times the moisture absorption) and Berger’s vaunted BM7, itself a unique blend of coarse grade Canadian peat moss, perlite, dolomitic and calcitic limestone, and a non-ionic wetting agent. All this means that the GroBox comes with a soil mix that is particularly suited for N. Texas’ hot, water-stressed environment while providing excellent aeration and porosity, creating the ideal organic growing environment.
