Building an AgriSystem for Lasting Change.
Before the era of corporate mega-farms, industrial agriculture and compartmentalization of foods into packaged goods available anywhere throughout the world on any given day, people were engaged in holistic, local “agrisystems.” Farmers, entrepreneurs, artisans, gardeners, service providers all revolved around a hub (usually a city or town) to create an economy of goods and services that everyone within a certain radius utilized and participated in.
We’re working on recreating this local model of health and prosperity because it’s not only vital to ending the cycle of poverty and “food deserts” that are rampant in urban areas, but it will uplift entire communities to become better and more engaged participants in the local economy and civics.
Our “hub and spoke” AgriSystem model features a central seedling farm that supplies a series of outlying farms who can share resources and knowledge to maximize land use, growing technologies, and ultimately - profitability that will return to and stay within the community. This, in turn, creates increased capital, community wealth, and well-being leading to job creation, and empowered citizens who have the freedom to do more than just “survive.”
