Shingle Mountain is not a mountain you want to climb let alone go anywhere near. It’s a seven-story tall, 100,000-ton mountain of toxic asphalt shingles that’s been poisoning members of our South Dallas community for over two and a half years.

You get find more details HERE, but a coalition of citizens and local organizations has finally given an ultimatum to the City of Dallas to begin their clean-up of the law violating site.

In a nutshell, a few individuals created a company and got a permit for a “shingle recycling business” that they claimed would only have a few hundred tons of shingles on site at any one time and that they would recycle them for re-use on roads and other things. Over the course of about 1 1/2 years, they compiled this giant, toxic mountain without recycling a shingle. Finally, with mounting pressure from enough local citizens and organizations, the City of Dallas shut down the business and wrote an injunction for them to remove the shingles. Nothing has been done as of August 2020.

Marsha Jackson, who literally lives in the shadow of the mountain which abuts her property, has suffered numerous health issues as have most of her neighbors and even her granddaughter who comes to visit.

Restorative Farms stands in solidarity with Ms. Jackson, her neighbors and the residents of South Dallas in fighting for environmental justice. This is one of the many reasons we created Restorative Farms.
